music – period 5, monday.
we saw a cello for the first time.
we all crossed our arms and
tugged our shirts around us a little tighter
when we noticed that it had hips like ours.
physics – period 3, wednesday.
we learned the constellations from a textbook, and then
quickly unlearned them. we realized that
the burning red flecks of adolescence on our cheeks
and foreheads were stars too.
biology – period 1, friday.
we were taught that our bodies are machines.
as a dozen carefully assembled networks
of veins, nerves, hormones and muscles,
we exhaled as we realised
that every single fiber of our beings
had a purpose.
